Your job to ask questions at interview too
« on: November 01, 2016, 11:00:31 am »

Hiring managers usually ask what's known as behavioural-interview type questions.

They want to find out how you had previously dealt with specific types of situations.

Such prompters are usually phrased as "tell me about a time when...".

Some examples:
-When you failed.
-When you managed a conflict.
-When you dealt with a difficult customer.
-When you missed an important deadline.
-When you learnt from a mistake.

Talk about what happened and what you did to resolve the situation.

The employment interview also gives you the opportunity to clarify matters. Seize it.

When the interviewer asks, "Do you have any questions for me?", the worst response you can give is "no".

Research the company so that you do not ask about matters to which you can easily find the answers. Doing so makes you appear lazy and disinterested in the company.

Some suggestions are:

1. What are your expectations - what must I accomplish in the first 6 to 12 months on the job?

2. What are the types of projects I will be working on?  What achievements would equate to success at this job?

3. What are three key things that drive results for the firm?

4. What is one thing an employee might do here that would be perceived as a violation of the firm's culture?

5. How has the company acknowledged and rewarded outstanding performance?

6. How does this position contribute to the company's goals, productivity or profits?

7. What is the most pressing business issue or problem for the company or department?

8. What do you think are the most difficult aspects of the job I'm interviewing for?

9. Do you have any concerns about my ability to perform the job that would prevent you from selecting me?

10. May I know your view on how to toggle between getting work done and encouraging healthy lives outside the office?

11. How does the company support and promote personal and professional growth?
