Post Natal Depression
« on: July 02, 2016, 09:34:55 pm »
Have you or someone you know had post natal depression before? (Post natal depression is depression experienced by the mother after giving birth)

And if so, how did you recover and how long did it take?

Thank you for answering!

i have a friend who has post natal.
the hubby and family have to take leave so that there is always someone familar to be close to her at all times.

no medication, no special treatment
just care and love, which is actually a lot more tedious than it seems.

think it only takes a month or so before she gets out of the rut and behave better lol

Hi McKing!
This is a good topic to talk about in light of the recent case where a new mom committed suicide with her new baby. It is indeed very sad and post natal depression is indeed very very real and not to be taken lightly.
I myself have two kids and seriously, being a first time mom is very tough. Nothing can prepare you to become a mother.
With regards to post natal depression, I was not officially/medically diagnosed with post natal depression but I most certainly did entertain thoughts of ending my life at many points after the birth of my two children. and yes, I did experience many moments of despair after having my second child. Honestly, I do not know how I came out of that period of "dark times" but knowledge that the woman's state of emotions is linked largely to the body's hormonal balance did give me some sort of answers to why I was feeling down a lot. The first few months after birth were the toughest with smallest issues causing flood gates to open and I would cry sobbingly for nothing. It really helps a lot to have a strong support group of fellow mothers and female friends to pour your heart out to. The family members or husband sometimes are the source of anxiety and may not be able to help. I would advise new and even experienced mothers to seek help and voice out whenever you have trouble. Do not bottle it all up within yourself! It is ok to ask for help. Always remember that "You are the best! You are the only mother that your child has!" Never give up!
Yours truly😘,
