http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/number-of-dengue-cases-continue-on-upward-trend-with-311-new/3103198.html

one would have thought that with the attention on zika and the intensive campaign on wiping out mozzies,  dengue cases would have been curtailed ...... :(

it goes to show that singaporeans do not give a flying rat's ass about removing stagnant water .....

ahh, so it was just because there's more media focus on zika these days. i was still wondering why zika seems more virulent than dengue when it's spread by the same mozzies.

so, is it cfm that our strain also causes birth defects?

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vnfv/ncurrent/full/nature18296.html
"Our findings support the hypothesis that microcephaly is a distinctive feature of recent ZIKV Asian-lineage virus, which originated in the Pacific and is now spreading in South and Central America."

http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/southeast-asia/article/2014248/singapore-zika-cases-hit-215-scientists-say-strain-asian
"Singapore on Saturday reported 215 cases of Zika infections as scientists in the city-state said the virus strain comes from within Asia and was not imported from Brazil."

so microcephaly is distinctive to the brazilian strain (which is a mutated asian-lineage) and it's not the same strain we're having here.
so by right, our pregnant ladies aren't really that much as risk?

Yes, that is what they are saying UNLESS they somehow manage to do back-testing and find links between recorded birth defects (such as microcephaly) and mosquito-borne diseases.
