A beauty queen who was seeing two men at the same time has told a court how she saw one of them kicked and punched by an intruder - three weeks before his face was slashed by an alleged hitman.

Ms Audrey Chen Ying Fang, 27, said she was at home with Mr Joshua Koh Kian Yong, 32, on April 8, 2016 when two men - who she identified as her other boyfriend's son and nephew "Ron" - turned up at the flat.

Ron assaulted Mr Koh for 10 to 15 minutes, causing injuries including a broken nose, while the son - who was not named - sat and played with her dog.

The jobless woman told a district court on Tuesday (May 15) that Ron said to Mr Koh in Mandarin: "I was sent here to kill you."

At the time, Ms Chen shared a flat with her other boyfriend, businessman Lim Hong Liang, 54, who owns SNL logistics. Lim and mover Ong Hock Chye, 47, are on trial for alleged involvement in a conspiracy to cause grievous hurt to Mr Koh on April 30, 2016.

Mr Koh's face was slashed with a penknife, causing permanent disfiguration, in Townshend Road near Little India at around 1am that day.

Taking the stand on the first day of the trial, Ms Chen told District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt that she was a beauty queen who won the inaugural Miss Mermaid pageant. She became Mr Koh's girlfriend in the same month he was attacked.

Ms Chen testified that a friend introduced her to Lim in mid 2014 and they soon became intimate. She was aware he was a married father.

The court heard that the businessman employed her as an "admin executive" in November 2014. Even though she did not report to work, he paid her a monthly salary of about $2,000 along with Central Provident Fund contributions of about $900 a month.

Ms Chen told the court that he bought her a white Mercedes-Benz in February 2016 which had a number plate displaying her birth year - 1991.

She moved in with Lim in January 2016 at an apartment at The Parc Condominium in West Coast Walk with a maid and a dog. Ms Chen told the court that she lived there rent-free. Lim also gave her other items including credit cards and cash. She said: "He supported me financially."

While Lim was overseas, Mr Koh went to the flat to see her on April 8, 2016.

Later that evening, she heard a gate opening and two men - Lim's son and Ron - appeared at the entrance of her bedroom.

She told Judge Chay that Ron started to kick and punch Mr Koh while Lim's son, who did not take part in the assault, sat in the living room and played with her dog.

Ms Chen testified that by the time Ron stopped the attack about 15 minutes later, the bedroom wall and floor were stained with Mr Koh's blood.

She added: "I was in a state of shock. The assault lasted 10 to 15 minutes... Josh didn't retaliate."
Mr Koh was taken to hospital and he called the police who arrived later that evening.

When Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Wen Hsien asked Ms Chen if she knew why Ron assaulted Mr Koh, she replied: "I don't know Ron... I believe it's because of Mr Lim."

After the assault, Ms Chen told the court that she received a few voice messages in Mandarin from Lim.
They were played in court on Tuesday and in one of them, a man was heard saying: "What you did was right or wrong? You brought a man to sleep while I was overseas. I provided you with everything... Do some reflection."

Ms Chen testified that after the attack, she lived with Mr Koh in hotel rooms for about two months. She added that he was sent to jail to serve a three-week sentence in June 2016 of a forgery-related offence.

Feeling “confused”, she decided to go back to Lim. Ms Chen told the court that she chose to cut off ties with the older man in May last year before moving out of their apartment three months later.

To date, five people have been dealt with court for their involvement in the case.

They are: Nur Atika Fauziana Sherhan, 20; Lim's nephew, Ron Lim De Mai, 26; Nur Muhammad Irwan Mohd Ngat, 29; Juhari Ab Karim, 34 and former technician Mohammad Amin Aman, 47.

Atika, the only woman, was ordered to undergo reformative training. The four men were given jail sentences of up to 14½ years. Three of them, including Ron Lim, were also sentenced to caning. The trial continues.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/hitman-slashing-trial-victim-knew-girlfriend-was-financially-supported-by

A banquet waiter whose face was slashed by an alleged hitman got into a relationship with a beauty queen - even though he knew she was seeing a businessman who supported her financially, a court heard on Thursday (May 17).

Joshua Koh Kian Yong, who himself is married to another woman, testified on day two of a trial in which the businessman Lim Hong Liang, 54, who owns a logistics company, and mover Ong Hock Chye, 47, each face a charge of conspiring to cause grievous hurt to Mr Koh on April 30, 2016.

Lim had also been dating the former Miss Mermaid - Audrey Chen Ying Fang, now 27 - that year.

Mr Koh, 34, said he is still Ms Chen's boyfriend and they live together in Kembangan. He is not in contact with his Thai wife, the court heard.

Mr Koh and Ms Chen, who is jobless, first met while drinking with friends in December 2015.

On April 8 the following year, Mr Koh was visiting her apartment at The Parc Condominium in West Coast Walk when Lim's son entered the unit with another man, whom Ms Chen identified on Tuesday as "Ron" - the businessman's nephew.

The court heard that Ron attacked Mr Koh but the latter did not retaliate. The waiter added: "I'm not a violent person. I was covering my head all the time."

The attack lasted about 15 minutes. After that, Mr Koh said that the two men took photos of him on their mobile phones. He was later taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for injuries including a broken nose.

Three weeks later he was attacked a second time as the couple were about to eat supper near Little India. He was slashed in the face by Nur Muhammad Irwan Mohd Ngat, suffering injuries including a wound which ran from his left upper lip to the right side of his chin.

However, Mr Koh said that he had only one direct encounter with Lim which took place near his father's home in September 2016.

He was with Ms Chen when he spotted Lim driving around the neighbourhood in his car. Mr Koh added that she was talking to Lim on the phone when he got irritated and snatched it from her. Mr Koh testified: "I told him, if you want to talk, come, don't keep circling."

The court heard that Lim then drove away.

Court documents allege Lim and Ong, who is unrepresented, committed the offence with Nur Atika Fauziana Sherhan, 20; Lim's nephew, Ron Lim De Mai, 26; Irwan, 29, and former technician Mohammad Amin Aman, 47.

To date, Atika, Ron Lim, Irwan, Amin and a fifth person, Juhari Ab Karim, 34 have been dealt with court for their involvement in the case.

According to reports in The Straits Times, Irwan asked his friend Juhari on April 29, 2016 to help in attacking Mr Koh. After picking up Juhari and Amin in a rented car, Irwan drove to Oasia Hotel Novena, where Ms Chen parked.

At about midnight, Ms Chen and Mr Koh left the hotel and went to Huay Kwang Thai Kitchen near Little India for supper. Irwan, Juhari and Amin tailed the couple in the car.
When the trio reached their destination, Juhari moved in, punched Mr Koh in the face and continued to rain blows on him. Irwan came forward with a penknife and slashed Mr Koh’s face. The attackers then fled.

Atika, the only woman, was ordered to undergo reformative training. The four men were given jail sentences of up to 14½ years. Three of them, including Ron Lim, were also sentenced to caning. The trial resumes on Friday.

Two people, who were convicted earlier for their roles in the slashing of a businessman's love rival, identified mover Ong Hock Chye, 47, as one of the men they met on April 27, 2016, to discuss the attack.

From the witness stand yesterday, the slasher, Nur Muhammad Irwan Mohd Ngat, 30, and his then fiancee, Nur Atika Fauziana Sherhan, 22, managed to recognise Ong as he sat in the dock.

However, both of them did not recognise the businessman, Lim Hong Liang, 54, who was sitting beside Ong. The court heard that Lim's name was also absent from the charges that Atika and Irwan had earlier admitted to.

Both Lim, who owns SNL Logistics, and Ong are accused of being involved in a conspiracy to cause grievous hurt to waiter Joshua Koh Kian Yong, now 34, on April 30, 2016.

Beauty queen Audrey Chen Ying Fang, 27, who is jobless, was two-timing Lim with Mr Koh that year.
Irwan, who was jailed for 141/2 years with 16 strokes of the cane in December 2016 for grievously hurting Mr Koh and for drug trafficking, told District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt yesterday that he knew Ong when they were both behind bars.

Irwan testified that he, Atika and Mohammad Amin Aman, 47, met Ong and a man he knew only as "Ah Ter" at a Toa Payoh coffee shop on April 27 that year.

Amin was earlier sentenced to 11 years and nine months' jail as well as 11 strokes of the cane.
Irwan added that Ong offered him a "job" - to slash Mr Koh - while Ah Ter passed him the waiter's photograph. Irwan also said Ong gave him $1,000 at the eatery and promised him another $4,000 upon completing the task.

Atika, who was earlier ordered to undergo reformative training, testified that Irwan later gave her details of a website that could be used to track Mr Koh's whereabouts. She also knew Irwan had been tasked to "leave a mark" on the waiter.

According to earlier reports in The Straits Times, Mr Koh was then travelling in Ms Chen's car. Lim had given her the white Mercedes-Benz, which had been fitted with a Global Positioning System (GPS) without her knowledge.

Atika told Judge Chay that over the next few days, she managed to track down Mr Koh's whereabouts via GPS and even followed him physically about five times. The vehicle was located in Novena on April 29, the court heard. She said she told Irwan not to do the job there as there were lots of closed-circuit television cameras in the area. Atika said she checked for the presence of CCTV cameras in the vicinity using Google Maps.

The car was later traced to Townshend Road near Little India, where Mr Koh and Ms Chen went to have supper at Huay Kwang Thai Kitchen around 1am on April 30.

The court heard that Atika told Irwan that the coffee shop had no CCTV and it was the "right place" to carry out the attack. Irwan told Judge Chay that he, together with Amin and another man known as Juhari Ab Karim, 34, walked towards Mr Koh. Irwan said Juhari punched Mr Koh. Irwan then slashed the waiter's face before the trio fled the scene.

Irwan testified that he met Ong at Queensway Shopping Centre the next day to get the remaining payment. He and Amin split the $5,000 equally. Each man later gave $300 to Juhari, who had earlier been sentenced to 15 months' jail for causing hurt and being a member of an unlawful society. The trial will resume at a later date.
