Kudos Darius for bringing this to the fore and highlighting the prejudices that minorities face in Singapore .... much can be done to educate Singaporeans to be race blind and what our national ethos stand for ....

I saw on fb another kenna the same things as me.  Her rental $$ also owe her.  I think once got bad experience ppl will be scared.  I feel the profile of ur tenant is more important than race.

All people have prejudices and what we have experienced shaped our views. In any case, the property belongs to the landlord. As long as they don't like your face, they can choose not to rent to u....

I think if our legislation protects the landlord's rights better and allow better quality of foreigners to enter Singapore, there would be lesser prejudice.

I heard from ppl in the industry that Indians and PRCs are typically not preferred by landlords, as they have a very bad reputation for poor maintenence of the house.

Sometimes even if landlords ok with Indians, agents may not want to deal with them due to the higher probability of problems during the tenancy period.  So they either psycho the landlords with horror stories or they just cut them out during the screening process.

If people hear more positive stories like yours, then the general mindset might change.

it depends on how the agent want to do the biz as well. some agents when doing rental do not provide follow up services. once the deal is secured they will wash hand and move on. for those kind of quantity-over-quality agents, it should not be an issue....

I tell them it is my Thai-Vietnam-Chinese-Korean mix culture to deduct from rental deposit the cost of engaging the services of Amah-On-Wheels to clean up the mess you leave behind .....  8)

i thought that is the norm for landlords to use the deposit to offset any need for maintenance cost when tenants refused to clean up?
but the problem is, sometimes the deposit is not enough to cover the cost....  :-\
