My pregnancy journey
« on: August 20, 2016, 02:37:32 pm »
Woohoo officially in my 2nd trimester! Nausea finally getting lesser and I'm feeling better!

Decided to share my pregnancy journey here with other mummies and mummies-to-be  :)

How it started.. Hubs and I finally decided that it's time we should try for a kid (because we are getting old n worried there might be problems if we want a kid and still don't try).

So there it goes, i missed my period by one week and suspected that maybe this is it? But my period came one week late before so I'm not so sure. And so, I waited for another week and period was still not here so it was quite obvious that i must be pregnant! Went to watsons to buy a test kit and tested it in the morning, yups it's positive! The first people we told were our parents and we told them not to tell anyone else first because pantang and I really wanted to wait for the first ultrasound scan to make sure the baby is ok.  :)

I was researching for the gynae but couldn't decide on one yet so I decided to go to KKH first. I went to polyclinic and got a referral to KKH under subsidised rate. Had to wait for 2 weeks before my first appointment with KKH at my week 8.

Who knows, my nausea kicked in badly at week 7 and my MIL told me to go see doctor to get the anti-nausea medicine. And just like that, i went to KKH 24-hour clinic and did my first ultrasound scan. We could already hear the baby's heartbeat at week 7!

Will continue the story of my not-so-easy first trimester in the next post! Time for a nap!  ;D

Wow.
Did you experience any symptoms, besides vomitting before the pregnancy test?

So I've not been updating on my pregnancy journey after my first post cuz i was soooo busy during my 2nd trimester (being a slave at work despite the pregnancy  :-[) n now I'm in my 3rd trimester! Last few weeks to go! Let me note down my pregnancy before the kiddo comes out  ;)

My 2nd subsidised visit at KK was on week 8 and we were given counselling on the scan for Down syndrome before deciding if we want to proceed with the scan on week 11. Some parents would choose not to do the scan, from what i know. But we decided to proceed with it so that we can prepare ourselves better. And so we had our blood tests done on week 10 and the Down syndrome scan done on week 11. Everything's good!

The only not-good was that my puking peaked from week 10 onwards and i puked like 7-8 times a day! I would grab a plastic bag n quickly rushed to a toilet cubicle at work and merlion. There were always many plastic bags on standby by my side. I even had one in my work cardigan's pocket and my colleague asked me if that's my breakfast plastic bag :'( Gross and it was miserable. In fact, I broke down a few times in front of my husband and just cried. My colleagues said I looked like zombie at work :( i avoided talking to people cuz somehow the nausea feeling comes once i open my mouth? Awful.

My nausea continued and finally showed signs of reduction in week 15-16. Ahs that concludes my terrible first trimester. Everyday felt like time was crawling but I survived it!

No symptoms before the pregnancy test. Not even vomiting. Only the period that did not come  ;)

I've popped! :D very happy to finally be done with my pregnancy as it has been a really tough journey for me. So glad that I survived 38 weeks of pregnancy! More updates of my 2nd and 3rd trimester below!

My 2nd trimester was my best trimester out of the 3! I definitely felt more energised and able to work better though I don't have much luck with morning sickness. My morning sickness continued till wk 30, can u believe it..

So i switched from KK subsidised to private gynae at week 16 as i wanted a gynae that will see me through my pregnancy and not having to see different doctors at the several appointments. Furthermore, i want to stay in a single ward where i can have ample privacy and rest. I chose Dr Henry Cheng as he was recommended by my friend and his clinics' locations are convenient for me. I did my detailed scan with him at week 20 for $300+ and thankfully the results are all good, so i signed up for the antenatal package at $950+. The antenatal package covers the scheduled appointments from week 20 until give birth but does not cover emergency walk-in.

At weeks 16 and 20 ultrasound scans, it's confirmed that I'm carrying a baby boy! Time for shopping!

Shopping list :
Car seat - Britax - $240 london
Ergobaby infant insert - $40 london
Simba steam Steriliser - $220 totsworld
Pigeon Bottles - $30 for 2 robinsons
Jeju wet Wipes - qoo10 $17 for 10 packets
Formula milk - did not buy as not required
Baby clothes - bought a few from carters usa and got mainly hand-me-downs
Pigeon Nursing pads - $15 for 120 taobao
Pads - kotex sanitary overnight pads
Disposable panties - $4 for 5 taobao
Medela Nipple cream - robinsons
Haakaa breastpump - $30 mothercare fair
Shrinkx belly wrap - $56 baby fair
Stroller - hand-me-down
Boots Breastmilk storage bag - $6 bangkok
Cot & bedding - hand-me-down
Anti flathead pillow - hand-me-down
Nursing bra - taobao & mothercare fair
Padded dresses and tops - taobao
Spectra S9 Breast pump - $110 qoo10
Real bubee breast pump - $20 shopee
Mustela Baby shampoo/wash - $30 robinsons
Baby bathtub - mt alvernia
Huggies Diapers - supermarket
Baby swaddle - $17 qoo10
Mustela Diaper cream - $30 robinsons
Cotton wool balls
Washcloth for bathing - qoo10
Yuyee oil - qoo10 seniorcare
Johnson baby oil
Kodomo baby laundry detergent

I have also decided to deliver at mount alvernia after considering the reviews from my friends. All of them who delivered at mount Alvernia have positive reviews about the nurses and their service. My experience there has been quite good other than the 2 days when the nursery is full and the nurses were too busy with too many babies so they could not respond to my requests as effectively. Other than that, they were quite patient in guiding me on how to breastfeed my baby. I can say that i was discharged from mt alvernia with the confidence to breastfeed my baby on my own at home.

And so, I started to gain weight in my 2nd trimester as i ate and slept better and gained about 7kg, which I'm pretty happy about as it seemed to be within control, until it gets to the 3rd trimester lol.
