Hi. I invest in real estate. I become very careful when dealing with real estate as few days back, I read about a property scam. I am planning to purchase a property and so I am thinking of contacting the lawyer. I personally feel that investing in real estate is beneficial.

I thought conventional wisdom is to buy term and invest the difference?   the rate of PAR policies and endowments is extremely poor and you could do better by buying cheaper term insurance coverage and putting the amount saved into a simple ETF such as STI ETF (SGX.ES3) - this "simple" ETF buys you into the 30 component stocks of the STI (including Singtel, DBS, OCBC, UOB, Keppel etc) and pays you a dividend twice yearly.

http://www.spdrs.com.sg/etf/fund/spdr-straits-times-index-etf-ES3.html

it is a full replication physical index (ie. buys the underlying stocks and not synthetically replicated) and has a relatively low total expense ratio - TER 0.3%.

Nothing wrong with picking individual stocks of course especially blue-chips like DBS, OCBC, Keppel Corp or even SingTel.

BTW, SingTel is doing poorly and could potentially be disrupted by the new entrants (TPG and Circles Life).  they have promised to hold the dividend for the next 2 years to shore up the share price but look at what happened to Starhub with its fat juicy dividend .....

Don't know about forex but for stocks and bonds,  it is important to start early and to be consistent

I also have some investments in stocks but I've only seen red for this past few months.
The stock market is never consistent on me.  ;D
I'm optimistic though that I'll recover. haha
