Top load is better i feel.

Cause front load mostly is on the ground, you end up have to squat, kneel, bend down just to see to take the stuff out..

I prefer european-style vertical drum but top-load like brandt or thomson ... plus hot water is useful for me ....

Japenis style horizontal has bigger capacity so might be useful for big loads like comforters.

For me, its definitely front loading machines

The biggest advantages of front load washing machines is that it has 30% more capacity, saves abt 60% energy and almost 40% less water!
so much easier on the pocket.
Front load uses less water and energy as it rotates using gravity to drop clothes into water, hence the whole drum need not be full.

Front load is more gentle on clothes
(however top load seems more rough, but it does get clothes cleaner but they spoil easier due to agitator in top load)

Front load allows you to stack a dryer on top (though in singapore, probably less of an issue)
Top load machines cannot.

Top load  Door is on top, have to reach in to retrieve laundry.
front load - u have to bend down.

Biggest disadvantage of  front load machines is that they are more expensive to buy. probably above $800 nowadays

This is the advantage of top load, as they are so much cheaper.. $300 can get u one

note that there are front load machines (horizontal drums) that now opens on top!
so you get the efficiency of the front load machines, but no need to bend to take stuff out.
suitable for you!

This is a very comprehensive answer and yes I am in favour of front load washing machines. Just to add on ah, front load also means once you close the door and start machine liao, cannot halfway last min throw 1 piece of clothing inside hahaha. Cos my family used to have this habit wash halfway last min throw something inside when we were using top loading hahaha.

Why you need hot water function? Sometimes, the hot water will cause color to run...

My parents when washing bedsheets, will use hot water function and purposely pause the washing machine in the soaking stage for hours to disinfect etc
