One pays for tickets and the other pays for lodging and meals. Take turns for each trip. But if the guy super MCP or some call it gentleman, wealthy etc (?), then he probably will pay for everything.

But for me, I prefer that me and my partner share cost. It helps future planning for house, car, big priced items, child education etc I guess, cos from there, a couple learns how to segregate the cost and not let one carries too much financial burden. Money issue is sensitive so best to talk about sharing cost on relaxing events such as overseas holiday.

If the girl is dating wealthy guy, then no need to plan such stuff ba. Everything guy pay. But for average middle class, too much paying makes the guy so poor that there is not even enough to save for the future, depending how much the guy is paying also.

Does it matter?

for some married couples,  left pocket and right pocket is the same.

in my case, the big ticket items like air-fare and accommodation is on my credit-card.

meals and shopping can be on either wife's or mine but we don't really keep track.

I know of some couples whose holidays are paid out of their joint accounts - that way they are extra careful because the joint account is also used for other expenses such as renovation,  wedding (if they are not already married), housing downpayment etc.

I am just like @simplistic . We go dutch on hotels and air tickets. When it comes to meals and transport, he insisted on paying most of the stuff.
But some of my gal friends gave the disapproving look coz their bfs paid for everything loh...

Dunnoe... maybe their bfs earn more than them?
My sis's bf paid for her airtix and hotel fees too.
I think my bf earns more than me but we still go on dutch. In that way, we can go on more holidays!

They should have a piggybank

Both put $2000 into the piggy and everything is taken from there.

I think if the bf earn more can help to cover the gf's part a little bit more? I do have friends that expect the bf to pay everything thou.

The only time I didn't pay to travel was when I'm a student and my ex wanted to travel so he pay for me.

Usually we shared the expenses. (Eg. I paid for air tix and accomodation and she paid for the daily expenses during the trip etc.)

I wouldn't go and count who paid more or less. I really don't like to be calculative especially with my SO.
