How useless is your degree?
« on: March 10, 2016, 06:50:54 pm »
When I graduated a decade ago with a degree in Life Sciences and the government promise of a good job in a future industry, I never expected to take a month to land a job.

My first full-time job at a private education company paid a basic salary of $1,800 a month. So much for the value of a degree.

The perks of my job were being able to ghost write assessment books under other authors’ names, teaching 10 two-hour classes a week and not being able to see the sunset on a regular basis. But I also gained the humble experience of washing toilets, taking class attendance and selling stationery at the front counter, which are essential tasks to running a small business and it is hard to find enough people to do.

tbh.
I didn't use my degree at all.

but I used the same analytical skills I obtained while going thru my major and the same amount of perseverance as when I was studying the major while trying to not fail get my degree.

wad I'm glad is
1.)I didn't choose an expensive course, not much money lost.
2.)I enjoyed a student's life until 23 (cz I chose a 4 yrs course 😁). I'm glad I didn't started out in society earlier than that because I only became emotionally mature when I was around 24-25.
3.)Met someone I love, although nt sure whether it last til marriage
4.) Took graduation photo. Kinda looks cool hanging on the wall.
5.) Have a paper on standby JUST in case my current pursuits are less thn ideal. (safety net to fall back on)

Now..  wad can I complain abt? lol.
Life is not only abt paper and money chase..

I did not use my 1st degree at all.
The reason why i studied for it coz that was the course that i wanted to do if i had the money to study in local uni.
However, that degree enables me to study even more degrees and as a result, complements my career.
